简介
"A 21st Century Marvin Gaye" is how SongwritersVantage.com's Franklin Spicer describes this Philadelphia native who sings, writes and produces in the tradition of the legendary artist. His scope of sound & message is also similar to the Motown giant. Even Marvin Gayes legendary writer/producer Leon Ware chimed in saying: LaRombés version of "Mercy Mercy Me' is "SO INSPIRED WITH UNLIMITED POSSIBLILITIES!!!" (his caps) The list of other artist who people say LaRombé "reminds' them of, either vocally, songwriting style or production includes : NEYO, Raheem DeVaughn-Mike McDonald-- Musiq Soulchild-Stevie Wonder-Brian McKnight-Peter Gabriel-Robin Thicke-Justin Timberlake-Earth Wind & Fire-Frankie Beverly-Bobbie McFerrin-Al Jarreau-Jon Lucien-Kem-Teddy Pendergrass-James Ingram-Seal-Barry White-Joe-India Arie-Earth Wind & Fire-Tracy Chapman to name a few Victor Bains Marshall of CKLN radio in Toronto writes: With the release of his 15 track CD “PHILAFORNIA SOUL” Los Angeles singer, song writer, musician, LaRombe connects the dots of his trans-continental musical journey from his Philadelphia roots to his long time home of Los Angeles, in the process creating a masterwork that should be mandatory listening for all folks who believe that magic still exists in the “fast food” environment that is modern day R’n’B" From the opening cut “Philafornia Soul”, with its sparse retro funk intro that segues into some laid back L.A. G-Funkness, LaRombé throws down the gauntlet, and proceeds to give us a peek at the recipe. Philly cheesesteaks never tasted this good! He’s in fine voice throughout, displaying a range that easily goes from silky falsetto to throaty baritone in a flash, with just a taste of bass added for good measure. On the mid-tempo “Taste Of Heaven” LaRombe offers something for the lover in you. “No Way No How” offers a latin touch that establishes his versatility. “Backdoor to Heaven” showcases his strong songwriting chops, and features some stellar guitar work from Adam Hawley (Manhattan Transfer). LaRombé says: "This album is the culmination of all of the wonderful influences I've had in my musical life. I didnt want this cd to be just 1 or 2 colors... I wanted it to be a rainbow of soul reminiscent of a classic Stevie Wonder album. My goal is to take the listener to different places & touch them in special spaces with multi melodies, multi rhythms Multi-moods and especially for these days of economic challenge.... Mucho mucho songs! Someone asked why I had so many tunes(15) on this album and I said: " because I've been blessed to HAVE so many ". I want to share this gift I've been given, and give people the most bang for their hard earned bucks in the process"
