Read the what the Courier Journal had to say in their article, 'Deck the Falls' CD Will Benefit The Arts Council of Southern Indiana Written by Jenna Esarey Special to The Courier-Journal The Louisville Chorus, Floyd Central High School Choir and Bellarmine University Schola Cantorum appear on a new CD of mostly original Christmas tunes by 20 local artists. Also on the CD are young new artists such as 18-year-old Jacob Resch and 14-year-old Meadow Ryann, as well as such longtime favorites as the Louisville Crashers, Jamey Aebersold Quartet, and Hugh Bir Jr. and the Concrete Canyon Cowboys. “Deck the Falls of the Ohio: Festive & Holiday Music by Friends of the Arts!” is being sold to raise money for the Arts Council of Southern Indiana. The CD includes Leigh Ann Yost performing a Tim Krekel original, “Peace on Earth.” Krekel “never recorded the song,” said Crystal Moss, arts council member and owner of Crystal Clear Promotions. “But he performed it a number of times. Leigh Ann got his family’s permission to record it, and we are so pleased.” Arts Council executive director Julie Schweitzer said projects like this one are good for the artists and the community. “We have so much talent here,” she said. The album came together quickly, taking only four months from conception to finished product. Tim Glasscock, chairman of the Bellarmine University Music Department, Moss and musician Dave Scopelliti served on the CD committee, soliciting musicians and overseeing the project from start to finish. “The music industry is a community,” said Moss. “We got on the phone and started requesting. Julie (Schweitzer) grew up with the Maxwell brothers (of the Louisville Crashers). They went right in and wrote something for the album.” To complete the package, the Arts Council also sent out a call for visual art for the CD. Three artists were selected, including New Albany High School art teacher Kevin Rose Schultz, who provided the cover art. “Everyone donated their time, art and music,” Moss continued. “That also includes three music studios, including the one at Bellarmine, which mastered the CD. We didn’t pay anyone.” The Arts Council’s gift shop in New Albany carries work by local visual artists as well as original music CDs. “Music is art. That’s the message we’re trying to get out,” said Moss, executive director of the arts council. “A lot of arts councils will get into the performing arts with plays and dance, but no one really goes in the direction of music. We want to broaden our horizons a little bit.” At a recent release party at the Knights of Columbus hall in New Albany, 11 of the artists on the CD took the stage at 10-minute intervals to play a couple of songs, including the one from the Christmas album. A music showcase Dec. 20 at New Albany’s Wicks Pizza will feature many of the artists and songs from the album as well.
