Nominated for three Carolina Music Awards in 2014 Blackpoint is a North Carolina-based band founded by drummer and producer Josh Stevens. The band is comprised of Crissie McCree, Derek Lee Bishop, Colin Neal and Stevens. McCree and Bishop provide a unique mix of male/female vocals that range from sweeping and ethereal to bluesy and grounded, endowing Blackpoint with a versatile indie folk rock sound. McCree, who won the 2013 Carolina Music Award for Best Rock Female, is also one of the band’s guitarists. Bishop serves as multi-instrumentalist, taking the lead on guitar and bass. Neal’s piano and organ treatments provide the full spectrum of emotion necessary to bring these songs to life. Stevens serves as the rhythmic foundation on drums, while shaping the band’s sound as producer.

One of Blackpoint’s unique features is the geographic separation of its members. Spread across three cities in two states, they’ve been able to capitalize on this physical isolation and effectively convert it into diverse song arrangements, often with melancholy lyrical narratives, while forging an unconventional and collaborative songwriting and recording process.

On Feb. 21st, 2014, Blackpoint released “A Family of Tree Farmers”. The EP is a mix of originals and covers that showcase the band’s indie folk rock sound. They also released a single and video for their version of Elliott Smith’s “Miss Misery” – a nod to their affinity for 90’s rock.
