简介
Bobby Broom's debut introduces a guitarist out of time — while his funky, single-note style owes much to Grant Green's Blue Note LPs of the previous decade and effectively anticipates the acid jazz sensibilities of the decade to follow, Clean Sweep squeezes him into the GRP label's early-'80s house style, bulldozing his lithe playing with gelatinous fusion-inspired production that's dated badly. To his credit, Broom curtails GRP's signature slap-bass rhythms and thick synth textures in favor of a more straight-ahead jazz approach that better spotlights his estimable talents, but songs like "No Bad Vibes" and "Share My Love" still collapse under the weight of their too-smooth over-production.
