简介
Sparky Grinstead's last album of all-new material was 1984's "Rodent to Rodent", a wacky, experimental, punkish tale of romantic dysfunction (he has released two collaborations since returning to music in 2011, "Winter Comes and Goes" with Eric Kampman and a return to "Rodent To Rodent' with his son, Matthew Joseph Payne) This time around he traces the path of a relationship, from tentative beginning to full-on passion (he promises that the follow-up will complete the arc). Backed by his band, The Backorders, Sparky shares vocal duties with singers Greg Reznick, Robin Famous, Erin Lyman and special guest Mikey Reznick. He's also joined by member on 1980's band on several songs. The production, by Greg Reznick, adds sonic depth to Sparky's pop-rock tunes (now with an added hint of blues) and The Backorders and musical guests contribute to a fuller sound. Banjos and mandolins float in and out of the arrangements along with the usual guitars, keyboards and percussion. Sparky is also joined by two of his kids, Zak Grinstead (drums) and Kristie Nichelle Finfrock (piano). Sparky's most accessible album ever, "Grimace" is an engaging concept piece about the wonders of new love.
