Equilibrium Lab is back! The Italian imprint, ran by Luca Fabiani and Stefano Lotti, has created quite a stir of late, with their no-nonsense take on house and techno winning them plaudits from various sides of the underground scene. This time, it's left to Italian producer Francesco Bergomi to deliver the goods. The sometime SCI+TEC producer has kept it relatively low profile since first coming to our attention on Red Velvet Drapes, but the East Texas EP is one that's set to propel him further into the hears and minds of the discerning music community the world over. Kicking off the three-track EP is the title number, East Texas, a winding, snaking field of sound that's bounded by frantic drum interchanges and a host of carefully placed white noise. The heightened groove adds the gloss on a track that must surely rank as of the Lab's most portent moments to date. Hog Suit keeps the intensity at a similarly leveled playing field, with its quivering mass of overdriven frequencies and its utterly relentless bassline sure to prompt the proverbial consternation on the floor. The last of the originals is Milk Sugar, a pulverising record that shows scant regard for its playful title. This time about, it's the eschewed synths that pave the way, with the forceful drop one that's as forceful as it is downright chaotic and dirty. Italy's techno scene, evidently, is in safe hands.
