简介
Singapore’s Impiety might just be at the pinnacle of their long career right now. After releasing the most ambitiously experimental album of the year in 2011, along with a well-received EP, the band is back with Ravage & Conquer, a more normal album by Impiety’s standards. Right away, Ravage & Conquer sets itself apart from their last album by keeping up the breakneck pace throughout the entire album. The chaotic sound is really reminscent of Black Witchery and even some Krisiun. Revelation Decimation is a nice, although almost too long, track to start the album off, but the third track, Weaponized, combines the best of old-school war metal like Blasphemy with the Impiety’s signature guitar solo’s and riffing. It really creates a memorable track in a solid block of tracks. The standout here are the drums; unrelenting and very fast, but they never let up or miss a beat. Ravage & Conquer also has more catchy guitar solos than most other bands in this genre. Legacy of Savagery has a bit of a neoclassical touch in how some of the solos are performed, but Impiety brings in these influences to just grace their savage brand of war metal before returning to their pummeling style. But while this is a very competent album, Impiety is still playing safe in their own brand of this metal. Revenge and Teitanblood are pushing the boundaries of war metal and Impiety is just adding fuel to the fire, but not changing the direction. In the end, it’s a very good album, but there are better albums out there.
