简介
A Few Reasons Why REVOLUSEAN is revolutionary... 1) No profanity...whatsoever (may be an all-time first in hiphop) 2) No misogyny...it actually celebrates women 3) In addition to topics like love, community, empowerment, social change, God, & integrity, it eloquently deals with topics like incest/rape that are considered taboo 4) Produced by an indie artist with his self-owned indie label but features multi-platinum and grammy award winning producers along side up and coming producers 5) It is a catalyst and battlecry for change socially, musically, politically, intellectually and spiritually. 6) Period composition with a message (to my knowledge, it may be first of it's kind in that respect as well as it much of it was inspired in response to the George W. Bush years) A QUICK WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR... They told me that you were too stupid to appreciate my lyrics. I didn't believe them. They said you would only buy music that celebrated violence, illicit sex and drugs. I didn't believe them. They said that people that think as I do are in the minority. I didn't believe them. Show that you believe as I do. Purchase and support REVOLUSEAN and BE the change you want to see in music, in society and the world at large. Your Comrade In Arms, -SB A FEW WORDS FROM PEOPLE THAT ARE FAMILIAR W/ MY MUSIC... "SB is one of those rare artists who creatively paves a new road while still honoring the past hiphop heroes His music comes from a true place and reminds us of that feeling a lot of us got from our first love, hiphop." Eric Roberson-singer/songwriter/producer (Musiq, Jill Scott, Floetry, Dwele) "SB represents a breath of fresh air in hip hop music...his message is positive and reminds me of Common & Talb Kweli. You are a great talent, follow your heart & soul and success will follow." B.A.M.-Assistant Program Director of WPWX-POWER 92 Chicago "SB is the whole package, great performer, with a sparkling personality and a stage presence that commands your undivided attention. You can't get a package better than this. He needs to be on YOUR stage." Michelle McGhee-Student Activities Board/NACA, Bradley University "SB so effortlessly resurrects Hip-Hop with genuine soul and a reflective spirit that manages to demonstrate divine inspiration and reign. He is the past, present and future of Hip-Hop. SB is Hip-Hop's truth..." La'Keisha Gray-Sewell- Producer/Editor WVON Talk Radio Freelance Journalist/Write1 Communications "As a veteran Chicago DJ, I find that SB's commanding stage presence, coupled with his thought provoking lyrics means that his performances are never sub par and the audience always takes sometihng away with them. SB easily fits into the company of hip-hop lyrical giants of the Lyricist Lounge, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Chicago's own, Common." Many are called but the chosen are few...thank you Lord for the gifts and the journey you have bestowed upon me. I am eternally humbled and grateful. May all that I do bring glory to you, Lord. Mom: Were it not for your love and the grace of God Almighty, I wouldn't even be here (on earth). It was you who told me long ago that I could do and be anything that I conceived. I believed you then and I believe you now. More than anyone on earth, it is because of you that I have been able to dream dreams impossible and manifest them into reality. Because of you the word "can't" is a four letter word to me and thus not in my vocabulary. :) Thank you for loving me so much that you fed me with the best food this life has to offer, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Thank you for striving to make every day (especially holidays) an experience of wonder and delight. Thank you for encouraging me and nurturing me as an artist, a son, and a friend. You have always been the best friend I've ever had on this earth and ever will. You have been my number one supporter and number one fan in all things. If I can one day find a woman half as good as you for a wife I will count myself the luckiest man on earth. I'm in awe at your ability to create heaven on earth in your actions and deeds. I love you with everything that I am, Mom, and pray that I can somehow give back to you everything that you have given me exponentially. You sacrificed all that you are and have ever possessed to raise us to be exceptional men and I pray that God willing I will be blessed with the power and resources to make all of your dreams come true as you have mine. Father: Thank you for being the leader, servant, teacher, father and friend that you have been not only to me but to so many others in need. You taught me that in order to be great, one must serve, not through your words but through your daily example. You taught me that greatness is not in one's riches, nor his possessions but one's actions. Thank you for instilling within me a burning pride and love for our people. You helped forge me like steel (thanks for the books on Timbuktu, Mali, Nubia, Egypt, Sundiata, etc.,) into a warrior committed, obligated & dedicated to the freedom of our people from oppression here in the states and worldwide...by any means necessary. It has also made me dedicated to fighting oppression in all its heinous forms, for as our brother, Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Oppression anywhere is oppression everywhere". The fight for the rights of those who are discriminated against and abused because of their skin color, social & economic caste, gender, sexual orientation, or any other reason has made me a better man and human being. I love you & am ever grateful for your shining example of what it means to be a man. Salim & Akwetee (bka "Kwe"): Thank you for being the fearless and welcoming individuals that you have always been. I have learned so much from you about what it means to be a leader and a good friend through your example. You have enriched my life in so many ways that I couldn't begin to imagine life as an only child without you. To do so would be to imagine a world devoid of color and sound. Growing up with you as brothers was an experience full of fun, laughter, excitement and adventure, and my first lesson in the blessing of camaraderie. Thank you for always being there to help whenever I was in dire need or when I simply needed support. Seeing one or both of your faces in the crowd (or on stage) has always given me an extra lift that words cannot describe. Remember when we used to pretend to be like the Jackson 5, rocking stages together? Well God willing, I believe that day has come. Thank you most 4 telling me, pushing me and believing me to be the greatest emcee of all time. I cherish your brotherhood, love and friendship and strive to continually make you proud of your big bro. Know that I would lay down my life for each of you in any situation...I LOVE YOU MAN!!! (tears trickle down face...LOL!) Thank you so much for teaching me about fatherhood through your example and for giving me the most wonderful nephews and nieces a man could ever have! Sana’a Assiya ("Aminah"): You are literally the best birthday present that I have ever received! I thank the Lord with everything that I have for the gift of you which is one of the many reasons why the Lord told me to name you Sana'a ('The Lord Is Praised'). Sana'a also means "fortified city" as the Ethiopians named her. It is the beautiful capitol city of Yemen, rumored to have been founded by Shem, one of the three sons of Noah. You are truly a fortified city for before you were even born the enemy attempted to destroy you. You're name also means "work of art, beauty" and that you are! I live to see to it that you accomplish all that the Lord has sent you here to do! You have already made me a better man and given me a better perspective on how precious this gift we call life is. I've been in love with the mere idea of you long before you were born but the reality of all that you are is so much more than I could have ever imagined, Sana'a! Daddy loves you always and forever...you are my heart! Grandpa Frank: Thank you for your legacy of music! Your love, appreciation, and talent for music runs in my veins. Your dream is realized through me. I'm glad that I was able to know you and I love you! Until we meet again... Grandma Jessica: Thank you for your gift of music! You could have taken the record deal they offered and changed the course of history but chose to raise a beautiful family instead. Thank you for your love, I feel it through my mother...you live through her…and me. I know you watch over me always and I look forward to getting to know you personally when my time here is done. I look forward to sitting down to one of those meals you and your mother used to cook…until we meet again... Grandpa Julian: We never met as those murderers took you long before I was born. But your memory lives on in the stories recounted through my mother and through me. I pray that I make you proud always and I look forward to talking with you on the other side when my time on earth is up. Until then... Grandma Gertrude: You were a poet and so much more, Grandma. I dare say that some of that flowed down to your grandson. May the words that I speak and write honor you and make you eternally proud. We never met but I know that we are always connected. Until we meet on the other side... Grandma Chris: Thank you for being there for me in SO many ways! Thank you for always providing a home and refuge for me when the home I grew up in was no more...meant so much to me and my brothers. Thank you for always making sure the twins and I had a place for holidays where we could be comfortable and be ourselves. Thank you for your wisdom and the countless life lessons that you taught me. You are a wealth of information, love and insight and you have made me a better person by sharing your multitude of gifts with me. Thank you for TOLERATING the twins and me during our MANY fights in YOUR home! Thank you for being such a wonderful soundboard, a source of inspiration and encouragement. But thank you most for being, Grandma! I love you 4 that most of all! Uncle Brent: You are a man extraordinarily tall in stature and heart! Thanks for schooling me on so many life lessons and street sense! Thanks for ALWAYS supporting me in everything I ever did and especially the music by attending so many shows over the years! Uncle Frank: Thanks for always having your nephew's back! Thanks for always letting me know that no matter how bad things may get in any life situation, you always have my back! Thanks for making it to so many shows and for always breaking down the essence of a situation from the perspective of the streets! Thanks for always being willing to use your resources to connect me and protect me...it has always meant a lot to know that if I ever needed to go to war, I'd have you and the streets behind me! But thank you most for being my Uncle Frank, there's no one else like you Unc! Uncle Ronnie: Thanks for always stressing the importance of family and letting us know how special our family is. Thank you for showing us how important it is for us to carry on family traditions and for instilling so much pride in us as members of the Butler clan. Thanks for allowing my cousin, Quinn, to be such a key component in our lives as children. Thank you also for the stories of overseas...they've helped to inspire me to traverse the entire globe! Aunt Rochelle: When it seemed that EVERYONE was against me you were there for me and asked me if I was alright. I can NEVER thank you enough for that moment at the courthouse. Thank you also for being there for me when I LOST a LARGE sum that I NEEDED. God willing I will be able to repay those acts of kindness in dividends! And yes, I am completing the illustrations of your book and they are AMAZING! I've learned that everything happens in God's timing and I believe that with my star rising those illustrations will turn into millions of books sold. Thank you also for being the guardian and storekeeper of so much of our family history! It is SO important to me and I plan to take up your mantle in this so that the legacy of our wonderful family lives forever. Love you Auntie! Aunt Kathy & Uncle Gill: THANK YOU for helping me to make my first demo tape. Thanks for all of my wonderful cousins, we have more than enough for any pickup basketball, baseball or football game! Uncle Kevin: Thanks for not letting us win easy at any of the basketball games @ family picnics AND 4 all the trash talking! :) It made us better men! Thanks for all the debates on religion...it served to strengthen my faith. We are due for a BIG conversation on Christianity so don't worry, I'm coming with my weapons loaded...lol! Uncle Keith: Thanks for always being genuinely interested in what's going on in my life...including the music career! Uncle Milton: Thank you Uncle for always reminding me of how important it is to praise and thank our Lord Jesus Christ! Your example is a shining one and one I will always take with me. Thank you for still being a kind man even in the face of persecution...that example is with me as well! I look 4ward to seeing talking with you on the other side as well! Never give up on the music...that tape Carl gave me of you rhyming inspired me cuz! But more than that, YOU inspire me! Thank you for your gift of knowledge and friendship. He doesn't always show up when we may want Him to, but He always shows up on time! :) Bee Able: Thank you for being a "REAL" dude from the jump! You saw a brother handing out press kits to other radio personnel at a Jay-Z concert and tossing it aside like it was trash. But you took the time to sit down and actually build with a brother. You listened to you U Got Me Singing and connected me with JV to take that song to a whole nother' level! It was d**e b4 but that made it much doper! Thanks for supporting a brother, for staying in Boolu's ear and anyone else's ear that needed to hear the music and could make a difference! Al Burton: Man, let me start by saying thanks for always giving me a place to crash when I was in NY...lol! NY was such an important time for me and you were one of the main people that made those trips back and forth possible for a brother...I SO appreciate that! Even more, you truly took the time to help A&R this entire project...which has been a LONG process...LOL! Thanks for always giving your honest opinion (even when at times I didn't agree with it) and for helping me to grow musically by introducing me to so much incredible music I had never heard (Please thank Lachelle for putting up with all those long telephone debates about music in general, the album, etc., and for making it to so many shows..lol!). You are a true musicologist, tastemaker, and artist so your perspective has always been valued greatly by me. When you gave me that Angels track by waxpoetic I knew that one was special immediately...so for anyone listening, you have Al to thank for that because I would have never heard that track if it wasn't for him! I remember zoning out to that one immediately and playing it over and over again until the words just came. And it believe it is one of the most important and strongest songs that I have ever written. Thanks for pushing me as an artist and for believing that I had the potential to take my music even higher than I may have set my mark creatively. Thanks for plugging me with the FREE mixtape (which took my music all over the nation and all the way to London and South Africa) and so many other people and opportunities but thank you most importantly for your friendship! Thank you for your support and friendship...you have most definitely made a contribution to hiphop and to the world that is worthy of praise and honor. James Daughrity: JD...thanks for supporting me ever since that show @ Rhythm. You could have easily dismissed Sarah's requests to come check me out but you didn't and the rest is history. Your efforts helped get me plugged into some of the best concerts I have ever performed at and that allowed me to perform on stage and alongside legendary artists that I grew up listening to...can't thank you enough for that! Your efforts have helped to prove to people that I deserved a place of honor with the best of the best in this hip hop/soul music pantheon. Thanks for making sure that I not only rocked quality shows but shows that paid quality money...lol! Tim: Thanks for always sending shows that pay well my way! Thanks for hollering @ Talib's people about the west coast leg of the tour and for letting them know about how we helped push his merchandise before he ever set foot on stage as my merchandise was selling like hotcakes! That package deal you made was great quick thinking...we were selling anything even connected with SB...LOL! Brad Kelly: Cuz, thank you for bringing all of your valuable experience and knowledge to this movement! I truly cannot thank you enough!
