Maera Music is a music label and micro-community based out of Mykonos in Greece. It is the brainchild of Nikos Iatrou (aka Nixxie) and Matthias Millhoff, who set but two conditions for all aspiring artists: a) to have at some point played in Maera and b) to really know your sh*t when it comes to music. There is no single genre that defines the label; rather it encourages artists to delve deep into whichever part of their musical psyche they feel most at home in. This is exemplified by the label's inaugural Various Artists compilation, which has been spread over two records, Volumes I and II, made available on vinyl as well as digital and streaming media. Vol II begins with Nixxie's "Sophia", a deep house tribute to legendary Sophia Loren. It is followed by Acidfox (aka Andreas Stylianou) and his "Sunrise in Saigon" acid house track. The side is completed by Maera co-founder Manuel Fischer and "Meldoria", and insight into the Swiss producer's avant-garde penchants. Another co-founder, Nils Caspar Thabo Gelfort, known as Thabo, gets the final side of the compilation going with "Loophole"; this is followed by longstanding Maera friend Damien Roussel / The Mekanism and "Yame" before closing off with a local Mykonian mainstay, Dest and his breakbeat offering "Summer in Calcutta". Available in all good vinyl stores from November 2023.
