This project was recorded in 2009 for my brother James (who wanted some more music to hear from me since my recording "KC Exposed" back in 2004. It was never publicly released until now. During the process or recording this project I realized I was not happy with the “fake horn” sounds I was getting through “wave samples” and plugins. So I decided to learn from scratch (I had NO previous experience on them) the clarinet, alto and tenor saxophones and the trombone. I also had to re-acquaint myself with the trumpet and flute, in which I have not practiced for over ten years. I downloaded a lot of “how to” pdf files and listened to a lot of “The Greats of Jazz”. It was quite a challenge and I attribute some of my successes to Rudy Massingale, Leon A. Brady, Charles Perkins, Charles 2X Bey, Rickey Carter, Will Combs, Donald Brown, Ricky Dotson, Joseph Macklin, Bobby Adams, Lonnie and Ronnie McFadden, Charles Williams, Davix Foreman, Lester “Duck” Warner, Albert Williams Jr., Marc and Kim, also my brother James for the GREAT tips and encouragement that guided me through my difficulties. Thanks to Mike Elrod for the trombone and setting up my guitars (GREAT JOB!). The main obstacle was the embouchure differences between instrument families. Also the years it takes for lip control and tone development. I proved to myself it could be done with consistent and dedicated practice, determination and self-discipline. There are certain limitations though and I had to use my production skills to over come most of them. At least one hour a day on each instrument over the course of a year. More on the new instruments. Scales, tonguing and flex exercises, long tones for tone and stamina (listen to your teachers). NO DAYS OFF! Now to keep it goin’ this time and see where it goes… Song titles were inspired as follows: “Warmup” is me just doin’ that on each instrument. If you listen closely on the beginning you can hear me tryin’ to play the guitar as a child...lol... “Llobro” is a screen name for my little brother Lloyd who is real smooth and laid back. “Bread Of Life” is a song originally written for Norman Brown but became a theme song for my pastor friend Otis Cobbins radio show. “Yammy’s G” (G is for Groove) is named after a good friend Sylvia (her nickname is Yammy Yam) kind of has her vibe. “Daught Tenaz” after my sister Stevyn (my mother called her Stawdaught) who has always been a tenatious warrior in her beliefs and goals. “Leedee” is the nickname growin’ up of my good friend Lisa. “Biggo” is the name of my son Craig’s entertainment company who’s a true hustle in life for his family. “Yehyee’s Passion” is inspired by my big sister Leslie who told me I couldn’t pronounce her name as a kid and she has always been very fiery and passionate about things, life and people in her life. “Tamst Meshé” inspired by my best friend DeTania Meshé (a classical violinist) who I first called Tandriod (cuz she reminded me of an android when we met) then I morphed her with a hamster creating a Tamster...lol.. “Keen” inspired by my big brother James (a nickname my mother transformed from another nickname Kippy to) who loves old school funk and to dance. “Rudy’s Room” inspired by my cousin Rudy (sax and keyboard player for The Five Scamps). “Just Me” well that’s obvious... This project was recorded in loving memory of my mother Penelope Brown, father Lloyd Brown, grandmother Elnora Herod, great grandmother Florence Craig, also acknowledging Verton Lindesay (my biological father) RIP.
