简介

Supervisor was born around a dying campfire, conceived through union of a half-busted ukelele and a full case of beer. On an August night in 2009, long-time friends Kirk Anderson, Kieren Porter, John Hogan, and Jim Snell passed the uke back and forth, picking out old country standards and 80s indie rock favorites into the wee hours. Freshly inspired to rekindle their love for making music (crowded out over the years by kids, careers, and other acts of responsible living), they soon ditched the uke and began organizing informal musical potlucks throughout their Portland, OR neighborhoods. Things took a fortuitous turn in early 2010 when guitarist Scott Taylor (The Hope Thieves, Faded Images) began sitting in. Taylor shared the eagerness to play, but with designs on writing originals and performing somewhere other than sofas and back porches. When drummer Brian Enneking was added, rehearsals and regular gigs soon followed and the band quickly developed a loyal following on the NE Portland bar circuit. Then in early 2011, Enneking moved his family to San Diego and the band found themselves suddenly drummer-less. Taking a break from live shows and with local alt-country hero Sean Oldham (Richmond Fontaine) sitting in on drums, Supervisor headed into the studio. Recorded with Shay Scott at KBC Records, the band’s debut album "Colliding With Air" alternates barroom rockers ("Preemption," "Kingman") with Americana ("The Dry Line," "Vivien, Ill-Fated") with anthems of the Pacific Northwest ("Barlow Road," "Coldwater"). Hogan and Taylor's guitars provide much of the heft which tends to pulse and release, with Anderson's mandolin and vocals taking up the spaces in between. Snell drives purposeful rhythms while Porter’s vocals lend beauty to the mix, alternating sweetness and light with occasional overdrive. The end result is one which Supervisor fans have likened to early R.E.M., Or,The Whale, Son Volt, Brandi Carlile, and The Band. The recent addition of drummer Chris Coogan (Spacegel) has added some considerable punch to the music and the band has returned to a full slate of live performing.
