Makala Jazz Funk Band is the new project as live group of DJ Makala. It comes from Zarautz (Basque Coast) and it is formed by some local experimented musicians such as Antxon Sarasua (keyboards), Ander Zulaika (drums), Oihan Lopetegi (vocals), Martin Asarian (guitar) & Mikel Makala Unzurrunzaga (bass). The repertory of band goes from 50s & 60s Jazz & RhythmnBlues to 70s Groove Funk & Disco Soul. Since 2012 Spring, MJFB project has offered around 50 live concerts across different Basque venues & clubs, as well as Jazz Festivals during Summer 2013, exactly Heineken Jazzaldia Festival of Donostia-San Sebastian and Mini-Jazz event at International Jazz Festival of Vitoria-Gasteiz, and also on Summer 2014, playing at Jazz Fermin Festival in Pamplona. During the summer of 2013, the band has recorded its first EP Single called Orrua, in brand new label Orrua Diskak, including three Jazz-Funk cover songs of Young-Holt Unlimited, Eddie Bo & Geraldo Pino, and an original tune called Orrua (which in basque means roar). And on Summer 2014, their released a second EP called Passion Fruit, including 2 new original songs of project plus two remixes of the first EP, one made by Doctor Stereo from Argentina and another one by Makala. During the month of March 2015, the Makala Jazz Funk Band project will release Xake, its first studio album.
