Winter Storm: The Pipes and Drums Concert was recorded live on January 19, 2002 at the Community Christian Church in Kansas City. This Frank Lloyd Wright designed building provided both the intimacy and acoustic dimension to create a great evening of piping and drumming. Chris Hamilton Chris is a current member of the Grade 1 City of Washington Pipe Band, and judge for the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association. In addition to his responsibilities as a player and primary "tone" man of the band, he also instructs and leads two other up-and-coming bands in the D.C. area and owns his own bagpipe sales and consulting business. Lindsay Kirkwood Lindsay is a former member of the Grade 1 World Champion 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band, and has served as Pipe Major of the Grade 1 Clan MacFarlane Pipe Band and Pipe Sergeant of the Grade 1 Metro Toronto Police Pipe Band. Lindsay teaches, judges and conducts workshops year-round in North America in addition to refinishing and repairing bagpipes in St. Catharines, Ontario. Carl Lenny Carl was formerly a snare drummer with the Grade 1 World Champion Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia Pip Band, winners of 9 World Pipe Band Championships during the 1990s. Originally from Scotland, Carl now resides in Southern California, where he helped the L.A.Scots win the 1997 Grade 2 World Pipe Band Championship and Drum Corps title. After a brief hiatus, Carl has recently rejoined the Grade 1 L.A. Scots as lead drummer. Kansas City St. Andrew Pipes & Drums In its 40th year, this high-caliber family of bands incorporates the talents of over forty-five musicians, ranging in age from thirteen to over seventy. Open to the public, KC St. Andrew is a community band that encourages active learning and competition. Currently, they field three competition bands: the Grade 2 corps (recently upgraded from Grade 3 after winning the United States Open Pipe Band Championship in 2000 and 2001), the Grade 4 band, and an up-and-coming Grade 5 band. Pipe Major Jim Higgins, Pipe Sergeant Tom McKee and Lead Drummer Jarrod Wood lead the Grade 2 Band. Iain Macey Iain is a sought-after piobaireachd instructor and regularly judges competitions throughout the country. Originally from Scotland, Iain has competed all over the world, including the Dunvegan Medal, the Bratach Gorm, the Gillies Cup and the Piobaireachd Society's (Canada) Gold Medal. Alasdair Gillies Alasdair is the former Pipe Major of the Queen's Own Highlanders and multiple medal-winner at the Gold Medal and Senior Piobaireachd at Oban, winner of the Clasp at Inverness, the Glenfiddich March, Strathspey, Reel and Piobaireachd, the Donald MacLeod Memorial Competition, among many others.Alasdair is an active competitor and teacher all over the globe while assuming teaching duties at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Tyler Fry Tyler is a current member of the Grade 1 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band, Ontario. Winner of 2 World Pipe Band Championship "Best Bass Section" as well as numerous Canadian, United States and North American "Best Bass Section" titles, Tyler is also a qualified tenor drumming judge for the Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario and a tenor drumstick manufacturer.
