简介

After releasing two singles and a video over the past six months, Milwaukee hip-hop emcees Dana Coppafeel & SPEAK Easy are finally releasing a collaborative effort, Uni- Fi Records Presents: Dana Coppafeel and SPEAK Easy. Known for his loudmouth witticism, Coppafeel has been a fixture on the Milwaukee hip-hop landscape for over a decade. SPEAK Easy, a more purist emcee, has been making hip-hop for an even longer time. Both artists under the same label, the unlikely pairing happened last year when they met in the studio and the chemistry was undeniable. "We're opposite emcees," explains Coppafeel. "In styles, sound, lyrical content—even lifestyles. But that's what makes it interesting. We killed it in the studio." What resulted is a hip-hop EP that is both traditional and experimental. The first single “One of These Kids” (November 2012) premiered on MTVhive.com, who wrote, “Honestly, it sounds like a great day: playground, shoe-shopping and cake consumption rolled into one.” Another track, “This Is Us” premiered on Rolling Stoneʼs “Daily Downloads” on March 14, 2013. "This track is an example of our collaborative efforts, taking original work by Frank Dukes and making it into a symphonic collab" adds Coppafeel. Born in Rockford, IL, and raised in Milwaukee, the wise crackinʼ Dana Coppafeel, started as a member of the group The Rusty Pelicans. In 97-98, They Rusty Pʼs hopped on tour with the Pharcyde. The Rusty Pelicans disbanded and in 99, he joined the group KingHellBastard which generated a serious buzz. In 2004, Coppafeel met local party promoter Dima Pochtarev who had opened a music studio and promoted local rap talent. In 2006, Dima founded Uni-Fi Records and released KingHellBastard 2010 EP: Remember the Name, among other releases. Often described as soulful, SPEAK Easy, who started rhyming in the 90s, continues to challenge being labeled by experimenting with style and sound, constantly changing his sound. In the past three years he produced two albums, two EPs and a mixtape, and was recently nominated for four Milwaukee Music Awards, including one for “Solo Artist of the Year”. Covering topics that range from fatherhood and relationships to social justice and childhood struggles, just like with the man himself: what you see is what you get.
