简介
The 20 year-old Bristol-based KOAN Sound are dropping their latest EP on Skrillex’s OWSLA this coming Tuesday, November 1st exclusively on Beatport. Will Weeks and James Bastow’s productions exercise an appreciation for slower tempos that’s seldom present in dance music spheres currently. After a string of singles and an EP that caught the ears of some of electronic music’s biggest influencers, including the prolific Aphex Twin who has notably incorporated their music into his live sets, the Funk Blaster EP is their 2nd foray into lengthier territory. The Funk Blaster EP occupies a completely unique position in the OWSLA ranks- registering at around 90 BPMs throughout, the 5 tracks draw influence from the earliest days of hip-hop, glitch and IDM as well as the current midrange bass-laden tidal wave of Dubstep production. Similarly unique, it’s not uncommon to hear an actual sampled breakbeat among the layers of wobble and synth ticks in KOAN’s tracks, a human element that’s strangely missing from a genre typified by the sounds of clashing machinery. The album closes with a blistering Drum & Bass interpretation of the title track by Kill The Noise.
