Born in Antananarivo Madagascar, Ny Ony Razafindratandra also known as her stage name Niu Raza is a singer songwriter currently based in Boston, United States. She attended the African leadership Academy in South Africa when she found out that music would be the tool she would use to impact the African continent in a positive way. She has decided to pursue her passion then and is currently enrolled at Berklee College of Music as a performer and a music business major. Daughter of two passionate doctors, she grew up in different countries and cultures in the African continent. Her musical influences vary from Congo’s warm soukous to the deep soul Beko groove of the south of Madagascar. She used to sing with her father after school and performed ever since for different school events despite the fact that she never really had any vocal training before attending Berklee. At one of Africa leadership Network’s gathering her singing career officially started in 2013, when she was singing along side with the African continent’s finest musicians Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage and Naima Mc Clean. Soon after this, she started writing music, and developed slowly her style of music that she calls R&B, which stands for “Riddim and Beko”. However, aside her genre, she is a singer that learnt to adapt through different style of music such as Jazz, Reggae, Soul and many over world music style because for her, it is beautiful how we all make sound worldwide but every single piece is unique. Every artist has their own vision and purpose to their music. People tend to believe that music is just for the entertainment our daily that we forget how it is actually part of our most memorable moments. For her music is a tool for positive change. It should give hope and inspiration to those who listen to it and believes in the power of the sounds that are able to touch the heart.
