December 20, 2015: a day that holds deep significance for soso, rapper and hip hop artist who hails from Queens, New York. On this day, he released his debut EP “Joyride,” a record that was born from a year’s worth of struggles and triumphs. Written from the perspective of a 20-something in a serious relationship, “Joyride” is a trip through feelings of lust, love, desire, celebration, and grinding for one’s dreams. Raised in Queens, soso naturally gravitated towards New York rappers such as Nas, Jay Z, and the Dipset collective. He likens his flow to Mase, with his smooth and relaxed yet catchy flow. On “Closed Curtains,” soso raps “You belong here baby/ this new school game/ you stuck on Atari.” Effortless and witty, soso differentiates himself through memorable lyricism and vibe heavy production. Contemporary influencers Pharrell and Kanye West also inspired soso’s inclination to innovate and reinvent himself as an artist. Since birth, soso was surrounded by music, his father singing in a rock band and his elder brothers exposing him to all genres of music from hardcore rap to pop to old school Motown sounds. He was then able to naturally develop a songwriting ability that came to light in high school. With his group of friends that rapped for fun, soso spontaneously recorded a song. He realized that this was the natural outlet for all the things he was going through at the time. At the age of 16, soso began working with his tight knit group and they continuously experimented with styles forming a production and rapping collective. soso then independently started releasing projects and at the age of 24, “Joyride” was created. In 2016, soso is focused on performing and bringing his music to the masses. “People inspire me and I want to create music that they can vibe and connect to,” says soso. Sharing his life through lyricism, soso is definitely poised to make his personal mark on the music world.
