Calm. Peaceful. In Season. Karien de Waal is an open book as she sings honestly and poignantly about God. An album of depth and gentleness, it's beautifully arranged with string section, choir, band and whatever else was needed. A song like "Jesus" cinematically tells the story of who Jesus was, while "Prayer of the Righteous" can pass as a modern day Psalm. "I declare" is a strong personal revelation of a Father. After spending time in the United States, studying writing and Film Scoring at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Karien de Waal returned back to Cape Town, back to her first love of simple songwriting and beautiful melodies. The album was recorded looking out over the ocean at Fishhoek. It's the first music she's released under her own name. And was always meant to be her first and best as a Thank You for the privilege of being a musician. Music has always been a gift and never a right. The album cover was shot on the side of Table Mountain, flying dove kites in a rainstorm, during the festival of the Firstfruits 2014. It was the perfect end to the making of the album.
