The band was originally formed for a single performance during bassist Birch Pereira's Charlie Haden tribute concert in October, 2014. After the performance the group continued gigging under the name Action Figure, playing original music inspired by the free, hard swinging jazz of Ornette Coleman, Henry Threadgill, Eric Dolphy, etc. This album encapsulates the hard driving group's live sound... and solidifies them as one of the most important improvised jazz trios on the West coast.
