简介

After wooing Australian audiences with critically acclaimed performances at the Woodford Music Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, The Mitchell Creek Rock & Blues Festival, Island Vibe Music Festival, Jungle Love Music Festival, Scorcherfest and opening for Aussie legends Jon Stevens and Dragon, Sharon Brooks is rapidly making her name known across the Soul and Funk scenes in Australia. In 2014, her single “One Time” which was an un-official release, soared the Triple J Unearthed charts to #34 and in 2012 she became the lead singer of Brisbane powerhouse funk band POCKETLOVE. It is safe to say after only a few short years in Australia, Sharon is making some serious waves in the Aussie music scene. Her professional music career began at the age of 16 in her homeland Barbados. After winning the nationwide known Richard Stoute Teen Talent Competition, she began working as a back vocalist with the popular Caribbean bands Spice & Company and John King & Jegna. With these groups she gained the experiences of working with acts like Beres Hammond, Machael Montano, The Mighty Sparrow and more. In 98, “Brooksie” as she is affectionately known, moved to Toronto, & immediately began work as a lead vocalist with “Collective Selective” a Jazz, group led by Henry Heillig. She also began work as a session singer, recording commercials and vocals for other artists. This led to herfronting an R&B cover band “Motor City” which eventually took her to living and working in Beijing, China. Her life in China inspired her first album “A Taste of Life”. Sharon’s next move was to Montreal, where she embedded herself within the local industry, becoming one of Montreal’s most sought after vocalists, performers and writers. Her endeavours led her to DNA Productions in Montreal, where she completed her sophomore EP “Defining Me”. She also began working closely and performing with Montreal’s Kalmunity Vibes Collective. In 2005, her gospel track “Follow You” was selected for the Montreal Mass Choir’s debut DVD recording. She also had the honour of performing with the choir at The Metropolis in Montreal. During her life in Montreal, Sharon became sought after as a backing vocalist, and worked with artists like Grammy nominees Deborah Cox and Martha Wash, Canadian icons Jonas and Jean LeLoup and European UMA winner Omar, and has worked closely in studio with Motown legend Bernard “Pretty” Purdie. Her vibrant onstage personality and endearing audience engagement has seen Sharon tour, Morocco, Canada, Asia, and Europe, and she now continues to wow Australian audiences with a growing fan base across the country. In 2014, PocketLove closed the year by making their debut performance at the Woodford Folk Festival (one of Australia’s largest music festivals). The band won the hearts of hundreds of thousands of new fans with their funk, foot to the floor beats, melodic horn sections and Sharon’s amazing onstage persona. In 2016 the band released the video “Sweet Georgia Brown” and cemented themselves as Brisbane’s number one Funk band. Sharon has affectionately now acquired the new Aussie nickname Shazzzzzzaaaaaaa!!!!!, and embraces it as she continues to win down under with her down to earth yet humble attitude, humorous persona and approachable manner.
