The Story begins with the choir singing "Universal Love" A teacher is teaching students who ask, "What are those people singing?" He answers, 'The Buddha's teaching on Universal Love". He promises to teach them where, when and why it was taught. He begins by telling them the story of how Jetavana Monastery, the place where the Buddha gave the teaching on Universal Love came to be. Then we go back to the time of the Buddha. Anathapindika, known for his generosity, buys with gold, the land known as Jeta,s Grove from Prince Jeta. His intention its build a monastery on the land and offer it to the Buddha. The Prince also joins in the offering. The teacher then promises to teach when and why the Buddha gave his teaching, the next time we meet. He invites everyone to sing "Universal Love reprise & the song "One People" The Teacher then explains when & why the Buddha gave the teaching on Universal Love. That just before the rains retreat, disciples would come to see the Buddha to receive instructions, then go to a suitable location to put them into practise. Then we go back to the time of the Buddha, where a certain group of 500 monks received their instructions & then found a perfect place to practise, at the foot of the Himalayas. The people of the nearby villages were overjoyed to see them & promised to take care of their needs so they could meditate under the ancient trees. Also, out of reverence for the monks virtue, the local deities came down from their celestial abode above the trees, as they did not want to remain above the monks. They waited patiently thinking the monks would only stay a short while. But as the days passed they grew anxious to return to their homes & decided to scare the monks away with terrifying visions, noises & smells. The monks, now distracted & unable to meditate, decided to leave & seek advice from the Buddha, who advised them to return to the same location, as it was the perfect place for them to practise. He gave them the teaching on Universal Love as a theme for their meditation as well as a formula for protection & healing. So they journeyed back to that perfect place constantly reciting & meditating on the Buddha's words of Universal Love. When they arrived the hearts of the deities were now filled with friendship & goodwill. They invited the monks to stay, promising to protect them. In perfect silence the monks attained liberation. Such is the power of Universal Love. Then all living beings are invited to sing the Buddha's words on "Universal Love" & the "Merit Dedication".
