David Allan Rivera Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. As a child he was always inclined towards the musical arts. Therefore at the age of 6 he started taking clases with Mario Sharron to learn mandolin and “cuatro,” and 8-string instrument, Later on he learned to play the guitar. In 1986 he moved to the US, and three month later became the singer of the musical group “Chalice,” a Rock Blues, and Rock of the 80’s which entertained throughout Hartford, Connecticut. He remained with “Chalice” for two years. Then he became the singer of the “Toasted Marshmallow band”. Said group was fusion Rock which delighted various Connecticut and New York cities. He was with them for approximately three years. Then he formed his own group “Three Night Groove” playing Blues, Rock and Pop. During five years, they traveled entertaining with their music in Hartford, Connecticut, Boston, Mass, and New York City, among other cities. In the year 2000 he return to Puerto Rico in order to study Latin Percussion thoroughly at the Interamericana University for two years. He was fortunate to study with great percussionists such as Raul Rodriguez (professor at he Interamericana University) Alfredo Rodriguez, Victor Campbell, Efrain Toro, Felix Ventura, a conga master who had played with Vicentico Valdez, Tito Rodriguez, Willie Rosario, all outstanding New York City Orchestras. Also, with Miguel Fuentes, a great percussionist who has played for many years for great stars such as Patti La Belle, Donna Summer, Grover Washington, Jr. and many others. Then, together with guitarist Daniel Torres and singer Marisol Datiz formed the musical group “Funky Groove”, where David Allan Rivera excelled as percussionist. He played with this band for approximately three years and a half; At the same time he would play the congas for “sonero” Pupi Santiago. In 2003, he formed the musical “Sombras de Blue” together with singer Marisol Datiz the group, which is still active, presents a proposal of the 70’s – 80’s Dance Music, Salsa and Merenge with a touch of jazz and Bolero. “Sombras de Blues” has had the collaboration of great musicians such as Pedrito Guzman, Yan Carlos Artime, Efrain Toro and many others. Another project which David Allan Rivera formed is “The Jazz Experience” together with pianist Henry Cruz, bass player Rafael Gonzalez, Trumpet player Jochy Rodriguez, and with the northamerican percussionist and drummer Victor Campbell and David Allan Rivera on Congas. With them he continues doing presentations. At the present time, David Allan Rivera has immersed himself in this new record production, which is “pop world latin music” titled “Sentiment in Color” in which great musicians, his colleagues, such as Pedrito Guzman, Jerry Medina, Ramon Vazquez, Pupi Santiago, to name a few, perform.
