简介

My name is Paul Coogan, I am a singer/songwriter from Brentwood, Essex, UK. This is intended as tribute to the families of those still suffering following the events of September 11th 2001. I wrote the song in it's basic form on September 9th 2004. I remember sitting on a chair with my favourite guitar, finding the three simple chords and just singing to myself, "it was a day we don't wanna remember..." and the song just formed itself within an hour or so. It is probably the quickest song I have written. Earlier this year, I played the song to my singing teacher who thought it was good, so I went away with the intention of recording it. Having made friends with so many great musicians over the years, I put out a call on Facebook for help with recording the song, along with a rough demo and video. Within a few hours, I already had a few responses; within a day, I was inundated with offers of help. My first port of call was Steve Pierce who joined me in the studio to lay down the basic guide tracks. Next up was the bass, then building up layers of guitar parts. The very talented Sabrina and Fran then each contributed a main vocal, followed by backing vocals from Mark & Jen. I am blown away by everyone who has given their time so freely and by the incredible standard of musicianship from all involved. Having had such a huge response and with such a wealth of material, it became obvious that condensing everything onto one single edit would be impossible. It was suggested we should make use of all the recordings contributed and produce a number of different versions. There are three versions altogether, one featuring Sabrina's main vocal, one with Fran's and one with mine. This way, we could include the best performances from all the sessions. The mixing process will still require some tough decisions, as the song must come first and I will be inclined to use everything. That's why I will be distancing myself from this stage and I'm sure everyone involved will understand my sentiment. I wish to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed their incredible talents to what many believe is a worthwhile and valid cause. Paul Coogan September 2011
