A mistake in identity brings out a long lost love from out of the past! After 43 years an old flame of mine from the 8th grade looked me up on Facebook in June of 2010 . We met up in New York while she was visiting her brother and his family that Fall and for whom I am also grateful for the hospitality given me during that time. I am very rarely on Facebook and usually only to look up my band's schedule occasionally that the drummer's daughter had been posting. In any event, an email address kept showing up there from a woman who had the same name as my old flame from 8th grade. I had just ended a short lived relationship with her and I had been ignoring her messages for perhaps months. I finally got annoyed to the point where I was going to make a copy of the message, print it out and report it to the police as harassment. But when I opened it up, it threw me a curve! It wouldn't be anything that this woman would have ever emailed. Long story short, it turned out to be the old flame of mine from out of the past from 43 years ago. Diana and I were 14 years old and in the 8th grade when I last saw her. Back then, we went steady after she moved away and changed schools. I continued to see her on Saturday afternoons by hitchhiking, taking the bus, or by any other way I could get there to see her. We would meet at a roller skating rink near her home. Well, this cute little hazel-eyed, dark haired, up beat little kid that I was attracted to, even way back then, blossomed into one of the most beautiful woman I've ever seen and had the pleasure of personally knowing as an adult! And when I say beautiful, I mean that in every way, in heart, mind, body and soul! She is a gracious lady, true to form in every sense of the word, with an unlimited amount of class and talent to be sure, not to mention an accomplished artist in her own right. Her works and paintings are in collections throughout the country from California to New York and then some! She is well educated and a very well disciplined individual, the girl you want to take home to meet mom (and by the way I did). I consider her a rare diamond set in pure gold with wit, charm, intelligence,sensitivity, caring, diplomacy, kindness, thoughtfulness, a pretty sharp cookie and nobody's fool! And believe me, nothing was ever handed to this talented unique little lady. She has totally worked and earned it all! Diana is a Dean's List graduate of the State University of New York at the College of New Paltz with a Master of Fine Arts, and has also taught as an adjunct professor at the University. During our school year together, between 1967 and 1968, 'West Side Story' happen to be one of the musicals we had studied in music class that particular year and we kind of associated ourselves with Tony and Maria, the two main characters in that love story. (I just hope my ending turns out better than his! LOL.) So, one of the first things we did while Diana was in New York in 2010, was watch West Side Story together! Appropriately so, the 'West Side Story' icon is on the back of the CD tray card. During her short stay in New York, Diana came with me just about every weekend night to watch our band play and if available during the week, we would go out for a bite to eat before or after my performances. Her company totally captivated me with everything we did together. I had not totally realized what was happening to me, or the effect she had on me during her short visit until after she boarded the plane to return home. It took weeks for me to totally regain my senses. She had made such a large impact in such a short amount of time! I'm still not sure that I'm totally recovered yet! If I had to describe how I felt when she left, I would have to say that it would be like when Eliot brought ET back to his space ship at the end of the movie!
