The lyrical sentiments are largely positive, with an occasional dose of social consciousness. Sense and Season are serviceable MCs, but the musical fusion won't really interest hip-hop fans because the band is simply not very funky. The rhythms are not complex and don't give the MCs enough opportunities to interact with or play off of them for the project to be musically compelling; instead, they sound like a very good bar band. Hipnosis will appeal more to hard rock and heavy metal fans who like the idea of rap but feel alienated from the sound and/or culture of hip-hop in practice.
