I am delighted to present this offering of bhajans at the lotus feet of our beloved Swami, Sri Sathya Sai Baba. This is a collection of Sai bhajans or spiritual songs that I composed in early 2012. In the course of producing this album, I was privileged to work with some very talented musicians and singers, for most of whom this was the first time being involved in the recording and production of a CD of bhajans. The common denominator for all involved is that we are Sai Baba devotees and members of the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Coquitlam, British Columbia. The CD was produced in the basement of my home in Maple Ridge, BC from around the summer of 2012 to the spring of 2013, with much of the mixing and editing done by my older son, Shyam, while at the University of Victoria. While the credits will show that I composed these bhajans, in all humility, I have to say that the words and tunes just came to me over the course of a few months in early 2012. It was a period of great inspiration. I would be jogging or meditating or in the shower or driving and a tune or words would just arrive in my head. Some of these I lost as I did not get the opportunity to record them in time, but for those on this CD, I managed to record on my laptop before I forgot them. These were then worked on by the musicians and singers in a series of meetings and workshops before the final recording sessions. The songs are done in both the traditional Indian style of bhajans as well as in the Western music style. We wanted to have variety in the songs and I think we achieved that. We have included songs using different tabla beats, 6 beats, 16 beats and the most common 8 beats. We also used non-traditional instruments, including the koto, cajon, sticks, saxophone and horns. And we have songs that sound cover various musical styles - traditional Indian, gospel, Bollywood, pop and ballads. I am very grateful to everyone involved in this CD and would like to thank them all for their patience, skill, talent and love during the making of the CD. In particular, I would like to thank Shyam for the many hours he put in editing and mixing the bhajans while trying to pursue a university education. Also my deepest thanks to my wife Sheila for putting up with all of us and supporting us with meals and nourishment during the many sessions we held at home. As the producer of this CD, I have the privilege of dedicating it to the many people, who have been my teachers, my inspirations and who have, in one way or another, touched my life.
