简介
Best known as a member of Chapel Hill’s Nikki Meets the Hibachi, John Gillespie has also consistently produced music with a variety of other collaborators. With False Idols, recorded by the multi-talented Mike Garrigan (Collapsis, Athenaeum), Gillespie matches his acoustic-oriented songs with an eclectic blend of real percussion (performed by Kevin Rader-Rhodenbaugh), programmed drums, and some electric guitars. For those unfamiliar with John’s work, False Idols could be likened to what 80’s era REM would have sounded like if they had focused primarily on acoustic rather than electric guitars. Like the 2006 release, Eternal Summer, Gillespie frequently draws upon literary subjects, especially with the title track which is based on Hermann Hesse's Demian.
