This CD includes music in a number of style of the rich, American folk tradition. There are folk songs, with fiddle, mandolin, and resonator (All The Live-Long Day, Too Far From Home, Hey, Pilgrim). There are blues with electric guitar and organ (Lorraine), and blues with acoustic guitar and mouth harp (Sittin' By The Bay). There is a hopping boogie-woogie, Jerry Lee Lewis style (Bass Line Boogie), and a philosophical tribute to rock and roll (Hable Usted Rock n' Roll).. There is the title song, a slow country ballad about failing to make it in Nashville, with soaring steel guitar. There are songs that put it straight out there, songs filled with double entendre (Sausage and Fries), and songs that link you to American history (Redbone; Gram and Emmylou). All these songs are original. These cuts employ some of the best, if not the best, pickers on the Nashville Scene. On resonator and steel guitar, is Randy Kohrs, head of the Randy Kohrs Bluegrass Band, and proprietor of Nashville's Slack Key Studios. Kohrs traveled for years in Dolly Parton's band, and toured Europe last year with John Fogerty, jamming with Bruce Springsteen on occasion. You will not hear more delicately beautiful resonator anywhere. There is Adam Steffey on mandolin. Steffey played for years with Allyson Krauss and Union Station, and has five Grammies to show for it. He now fronts the Boxcars, a fabulous bluegrass group. In my opinion, Steffey plays the cleanest and clearest mandolin around. On fiddle is the incredible Stuart Duncan, who appears several times a year as part of the Nashville Bluegrass Band, and who is the fiddle player in Vince Gill's band. You won't find a sweeter example of fiddle anywhere. Just give this CD a listen. Holding it all together are the drums of Andy Hull, who plays with Lee Greenwood, among others. Mark Hill plays some wonderfully sounding wah-wah, guitar on Prayers for Luna, a song about the near-death (we thought) experience of my sweet little long-haired Chihuahua. So, pick up a copy, and enjoy.
