2012 is shaping up to be the year of the instrumental- we’re only a couple weeks in and there’s already been a number of beat-oriented bangers released and confirmed. Recent LA transplant (via the Philly area) Mndsgn draws his first blood of the new year with Exts, a collection of 12 woozy, dissociative beats spanning a tidy 25 minutes. Jazzy, laid-back beat work, suave sampling, lush bass and the occasional analog synth flourish from the Klipmode alumnus have this one in repeat rotation around the crib already, and the feature from blqbrd on “natportman” fits the aesthetic perfectly, channeling vintage Gil Scott-Heron at his most relaxed and blunted to spit an eloquent love letter to the prominent actress.
