Helder “S.A Shorty” Martinez comes from King City, California a town in south Monterey also known as the Salinas Valley. His parents worked in the Salinas valley fields while trying to provide a better life and opportunities for their children. S.A Shorty became deeply involved with gangs and was jump in to a well-known Sureno gang at the age of thirteen. His parents always encouraged their children to acquire an education. After graduating high school, he attended the Salinas Hartnell Community college then he decided to join the Military. He had the privilege to travel to different countries, and at the same time the misfortune to participate in the war with Iraq and Afghanistan. A U.S war veteran S.A Shorty lived first hand experience of the wars. He lost close friends and that only made him stronger. Through his life S.A Shorty has known life in the barrio and life in the mist of war. His music portrays his experiences as a child, his struggles as a teenager and his life in the battlefield.
