Paul Cohen, drummer/singer, is excited to announce the release of his first vocal CD entitled "I Want You Back," with his quartet composed of Jane Getz on piano, Dale Fielder on saxophones, Bill Markus on acoustic bass, and Paul playing drums on most of the tracks. Paul is joined on some of the tracks by guest artists, Steve Cotter on guitar, Tom Walsh on drums and Edwin Livingston on electric bass. As a young musician in New York in the late 1950’s and early 60’s, Paul appeared on drums on the live recording of Lennox School of Jazz historical concert with Herb Pomeroy’s big band featuring Ornette Coleman and in the small group of Jimmy Giuffre. He worked in New York with Charles Mingus, Gunther Schuller, Bill Evans, Eric Dolphy, and in the Paul Bley trio with Steve Swallow. He toured with Ed Summerlin’s orchestra. Then he went to law school but continued to play in New York where he recorded on the Archie Shepp-Bill Dixon Quartet’s iconic first album. He currently lives in Los Angeles where he leads the Paul Cohen Quintet. Paul also practices law in Los Angeles and has been named as a Super Lawyer by Super Lawyer Magazine. A few years ago Jane Getz recognized Paul’s skill as a singer. This led Jane to compose for Paul the title cut "I Want You Back."
