Schunge was born in the industrial town of Widnes during the post war years and grew up as a reflective individual during the cultural revolution of the sixties. During this time he played at folk clubs in Lancashire and Cheshire and built up a quite devoted local following. In 1971 some of these devoted followers were hearttbroken to see Schunge and his musical partner Rob Richardson move South to London. For the pair had made a quality demo of Schunge's songs and won a record contract with Red Bus Records. Schunge and Rob played twice at concerts in Widnes in 1971 and toward the end of the year they started recording tracks foir the album. Red Bus were putting some real money into the project, hiring the top London studios and the very best session musicians around. Quite a lot of the recording was done at Piccadilly Studios in the heart of the West End. When the album was completed Schunge and Rob went on the Red Bus UK tour headlined by Geordie, Red Bus's top charting band at the time. Schunge was pretty much off the scene for a while although he has always been writing songs. In 2015 he released Constant Byways, which was recorded at Relelator Studios with the remote help of Phil Little on drums. Raw material is a collection of self recorded songs, including Schunge's original version of the song Constant Byways. The recordings were re-mastered at Revelator Studios.
