简介
Akiva's music career began during his college years, playing Counting Crows covers for fellow UMASS classmates. As a neurobiology major, he pushed any ideas of a serious music career out of his head as he pursued his original dream of becoming a brain surgeon. But while studying abroad, Akiva found himself spending more time playing gigs in English Pubs and popping up on local radio than dissecting gray matter. Eventually settling back in New York after college, he hit the music scene with endless enthusiasm, releasing his critically acclaimed debut album Bueno Y Sano, followed by his sophomore effort, The Hermosa EP. Now with the release of his 14 track double disc set If I Didn’t Work Nights/The Daylight, Akiva continues to expand his musical horizons and create his signature mix of catchy pop, surf and soul sounds. “I think that many of these new songs have a maturity to them without abandoning the sense of fun and optimism that I’ve always embedded into my music,” says Akiva. Recorded in Huntington, NY with producer Philip A. Jimenez (Wheatus, Easy Anthems, Beat Radio, The Diggs), If I Didn’t Work Nights/The Daylight was initially released as a series of six singles available exclusively through Myspace.com. The first single, “I Keep Calling You,” has already been picked up by radio stations like 101.9 RXP The NY Rock Experience and Long Island’s 94.3 WMJC. Says Rich Russo, host of “Anything Anything” on 101.9, "I Keep Calling You” by Akiva is one of the catchiest tunes to cross my stereo in the last few years, and one of the highest positive reactions to an unsigned artist I've gotten from my radio show." Now, nearly two years after the first single was released, If I Didn’t Work Nights/The Daylight will see the light of day as a double disc set on November 3rd, 2009. “There are themes and threads that weave throughout each song, but they were not originally designed to be taken as a whole,” said Akiva. “The idea was that each song should stand alone. The challenge with making the full record was to figure out how to make it cohesive.” As Performing Songwriter said: "It may be difficult to define Akiva's music, but no matter what you call it, we promise you're going to dig it.” Akiva has performed at such legendary venues as The Bitter End and The Knitting Factory in New York, The Mint in Los Angles and the Georgia Theatre in Athens. He has become a sought after opener for acts like RUSTED ROOT, JOSH KELLEY, INGRAM HILL, TOBY LIGHTMAN, and RON SEXSMITH and he recently performed live in-studio at 101.9 RXP The NY Rock Experience in support of If I Didn’t Work Nights/The Daylight.
