This CD offers a total of 11 songs. Nine are live songs that capture FREEPORT's approach to Smooth Jazz at the 2012 Hillsborough Jazz Festival in North Carolina while two are studio recorded tracks. The live tracks are kept as live as possible without degrading the quality in an effort to take you a live performance, allowing you to hear some communication between the players, to the audience and to experience the overall jazz experience. The studio version of the single "After The Rain" - released in 2012 - was mixed by Mitch Easter who gained acclaim with his work with REM, Joe Walsh, Ben Folds Five, Suzanne Vega, Marshall Crenshaw, The Connells and many others. The balance of the tracks were recorded by engineer Nick Peterson who works in conjunction with Mitch Easter. Recently they have shared the stage with rising artists, legends and Grammy award winners in the jazz community such as Bob James, Marion Meadows, Joyce Cooling, Paul Brown, Nils, Bob Baldwin, Matt Marshak, Dee Lucas, Saxmo and the list goes on. Some past highlights have been recording and performing with Tower Of Power, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Special EFX, and Grover Washington Jr. Freeport provides a very soulful, appropriate, inquisitive, and smooth approach to performing. They offer a combination of Smooth Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, and Jazz Standards. The four piece Smooth Jazz group consists of Steve Thornton on saxes, flute, keyboards, Jo Daniels on keyboards, Tony Testa on drums, and Scott Marvill on bass and guitar.
