Chris, we really appreciate the use of the Rec. hall for these live recordings. The 100% plus temperatures caused by one of the dog days of the summer truly qualifies this music as one of the hottest CD’s of the year. Good thing we had allot of fans. Lastly, I would like to thank Van Dyke for being part of this day. We enjoyed chasing you around the property It was a good reminder for us to chill out and enjoy the session, thanks Van Dyke. This recording session was surely a dog day! Dedication: I dedicate “Best of the Rooftop” to my sit-in-father, Mr. Herb Van Den End, who spent many hours with me from 1985 to 1992. He taught me much about the real struggles of the faith and always encouraged me to keep pressing on in the work of the Lord. I will always remember the Oswald Chambers, June 28th devotional, “Apprehended by God” we read together in 1990 I can’t wait to join you in Heaven Herb! Thank you so much for your encouragement Mr. Herb Van Den End entered the presence of the Lord in June 1994. He was a father to me! These are some of the songs that were performed on the rooftop of a prison in Paterson, New Jersey between 1990 and 1993. Words cannot describe what took place on that rooftop. I would be at a complete loss in trying to articulate in human words what took place in the spirit. I can only say this: The need was there. The giving was there. And, the spirit was there! Tony Loeffler’s ‘Rooftop’ series of tapes was never intended for commercial release and so production of those live albums was always a little rough and ready but none the less truly inspired. Here, Loeffler takes the Blue Angels into an empty church recreation hall to record live versions of the best songs from the series. No audience, no preaching, no testimonies, just the music! And this music is good! You get all the classics, “Touched By Love”, “Bright Light” and “See The Valley” all sounding even better in the crystal clarity of CD. The live feel as the band simply plays the songs as though in concert gives the whole thing an appropriate vibe. My favorite is “Finish Line” with its look at the last days and the blurring of morals. “White’s gone black, black’s gone white/ We’re living in a grey world/ Heading for the finish line.” Prophetic!
