简介
Think urban Nigerian with smooth vocals, exciting dance moves but yet sincere lyrics spiced with a deep sense of culture and Obiora Obiwon easily comes to mind. Debuting in 2006 with Overture, Obiwon gained instant critical acclaim and some measure of commercial succes with hits such as the emotive ballad Onyinye, Streetz of Lagos, Get 'Em Off Me and Joli. The awards followed in 2007 at the illustrious HipHop World Awards and Nigerian Music Awards for vocal performance, amidst various nominations for songwriting, vocals and chereography within the period 2006 - 2008. Prior to this Obi worked a nine-to-five job for 3 years, passionately creating the debut within the period. The buzz from Overture eventually led to resignation for a full time music career. His earlier musical experiences were nurtured a teenager in local groups and bands in the eastern region of Nigeria where he grew up. Upon graduation from the University of Nigeria, Obiwon migrated to Lagos where he teamed up with award winning HipHop group, Thorobreds. In 2008 Obiwon made several references to a deep spiritual experience and the addition of contemporary gospel themes to his style while starting off work on a much anticipated sophomore, The Rebirth. The following year 2009 saw the first single off the album and upbeat ballad Obi Mu O rise to become one of year's smash hits. With catchy grooves, melodies and a style that captures the artiste's african influence over contemporary gospel and r'n'b themes, The Rebirth is a unique experience and a must listen.
