Inspiration can pretty much come from anywhere, and in the case of the subject matter behind "Sad Girl (Only Human)," the story behind the lyrics originated from a photo of a girl with a worried expression sitting on a park bench. At the time many of the people around me were going through different things and the girl in the photo (pictured on the album artwork) seemed to capture all of the emotions that people around me were feeling. This song is meant for people who feel like giving up and surrendering to the darkness that engulfs them; the message is "there's someone out there who cares."
