简介

Chandra Currelley is one of the music world’s most extraordinary artists, with the ability to make her music a unique experience. Her first major gig was touring with the jazz funk legend, Roy Ayers, which produced the duet “Let Me Love You” from Ayer's Sony album “I’m the One”. The Pittsburgh Courier noted “her chops are powerful, but she reaches upper and lower registers effortlessly….she’s also quite a fantastic scat vocalist”. Chandra is comfortable with any style of music. cited as being “the perfect lead vocalist” in an article by Black Radio Exclusive magazine (BRE) commenting on Chandra replacing Mary Davis as lead singer for the S.O.S. band in 1986. Chandra and the S.O.S. band climbed the billboard charts to #4 with “I’m Still Missing Your Love” on Tabu/Sony records on the “Diamonds In the Raw” album. With the success of “Diamonds In the Raw”, Chandra recorded a second S.O.S. band album on A&M records entitled “One of Many Nights”, with the single “Sometimes I Wonder”. It would be the twentieth top twenty single for the S.o.S. band. Ms. Currelley wrote 3 songs on that album, including the single, “Broken Promises”. As she explained in an interview with the urban network (artist profile), “being a true performer has meant a lifetime devoted to artistic expression including, acting, singing and writing. Chandra has received numerous award nominations including an Atlanta gospel choice (best female vocalist), Helen Hayes (slam!), NAACP (Hot Mikado) and Suzie Bass (rejoice!) Chandra has worked with some of the most influential people in the entertainment industry including Tyler Perry, Kenny Leon, Debbie Allen, Tom W. Jones II, David Petraca and David H. Bell. Whether music , movies or theatre, Chandra delivers! It’s no surprise that Tyler Perry recognized her talent and cast Chandra in the plays, “I Know I Been Changed”, “Madea’s Class Reunion” and “What’s Done In the Dark”. Variety magazine cited Chandra’s performance in “Madea’s Class Reunion” as “roof rising” as Ms. Emma. Chandra plays herself in Tyler Perry’s number one hit movie “Diary of A Mad Black Woman," singing the beautiful ballad, “Love Again”, the perfect combination of scene and song. The certainty in her life is to continue making the music she calls urspijaz, urban, spiritual, jazz! Chandra is an artists artist!
