简介
"...the woman is a musical explosion.” – Kitty Montgomery, Daily Freeman "Pure energy, heart, and humor in one folk performance." – Judy Norman, Mamapalooza Acoustic “Between the incredible picking and twangy blues acoustic guitar you'll chuckle at the humor of this self-proclaimed "Housewife from Hell." Elly's gotten rave reviews from her performances here in the Hudson Valley." --Kurt Henry “Congratulations on your great songwriting... your material was quite impressive." – Jennifer Fowler, Song of the Year “It’s all folk music, but it’s not all good folk music.” ~Elly Wininger While still in high school in the 60s, encouraged by her guitar teacher, David Bromberg, Elly started performing in basket houses such as the Four Winds Café, playing blues and ragtime guitar. She was one of the acts to play opening night at CBGB’s Bowery digs, and performed there regularly as well as in NYC venues such as Kenny’s Castaways (where she opened for the Marshall Tucker Band), Dr. Generosity’s and The Bitter End. Elly sang back up vocals at the Philadelphia Folk Festival in the 70s alongside Maria Muldaur, and for Tanya Tucker at the Bottom Line. She shared stages with many of the era’s top performers including Bonnie Raitt, Eric Anderson, Jack Elliott and Dave Van Ronk. Elly kept playing NYC venues while raising 3 kids, producing shows for public radio, and working at Putumayo World Music. She and Susan Cohen formed WildFlowers and in 1997, Steve Burgh (Phoebe Snow, Steve Forbert) produced their CD titled “Housewife From Hell,” named for a song Elly wrote about the trials and tribulations combining music and motherhood. “It is a great CD, but neither Susan nor I wanted to hit the road to promote it.” Fast forward to the spring of 2007... “The kids are all launched, and it’s time to put music and performing on the front burner again.” And since it’s been simmering for a while, the flavors are at their peak, taste tested and ready to be served. “Back Eddy Blues” is a collection of songs Elly has written (with the exception of one cover tune) and has been performing to rapt audiences over the last couple of years since moving to upstate New York from Brooklyn. “There is an amazing abundance of very talented musicians here in the Hudson Valley, so making this CD was a fun, exciting project. And the guest appearance by David Bromberg really made my day.” Other legendary musicians whip up a creative froth on “Back Eddy Blues,” without overshadowing Elly’s terrific guitar playing and powerful singing and songwriting. Elly’s talents as a producer also shine forth in the variety of genres she writes in. From the simplicity of a mournful ballad, to a down to earth blues, or a Latin tinged jazzy tune, Elly’s clear conception and expert realization are evident in every song. So listen and believe! A legendary newcomer has arrived. Elly makes her home in Woodstock, NY, and when not touring, she can be heard either at the High Falls Cafe or in Kingston at the Arts Society where she hosts a monthly songwriters' circle.
