In 2006, after a busy year promoting New Dawn Breaking around Ireland, Europe and the US - where the band played SXSW and were also invited to perform a session on the legendary show 'Morning Becomes Eclectic' with Nic Harcourt - the band retreated into the darkness to work on album number three. Little did they know it was going to take four years to complete. For the best part of a year they wrote music together in a studio they built themselves in Dublin and ended up with around 40 or so compositions. The next three years were spent pulling many of these into shape, writing, re-writing, recording, re-recording, losing the plot, finding it again, mixing, re-mixing, working with a succession of engineers and then suffering overexposure to it all and not being able to hear the songs anymore. Oh...and a lot of time was also spent developing a revolutionary new two-man audio/visual show that allows Steve & Joe to perform as a 2-piece but they are also joined by virtual versions of their band who are projected onto a screen behind them. Check it out on YouTube: the walls - bird in a cage. In March 2010, Steve and Joe took a break from recording to perform a set of new songs at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin Texas. They took their new two-man show to Austin and it got an amazing reaction. The following June they released the double A-sided single Carrying the Fire / Phantom Power. The daytime radio jocks loved the uplifting catchy melodies of CTF and the evening rock shows loved the breezy coolness of Phantom Power. The feedback was encouraging and gave the band the boost they needed to complete the rest of the album. It was decided that an EP would be a good idea to pre-empt the album release so the 'Bird in a Cage EP' was devised. Two new tracks Chrome Heart and The Big Freeze were completed - the latter featuring some fantastic synthesizer contributions from Paul G.Smyth of Irish avant-rockers "The Jimmy Cake". The album is completed and is due for release in summer/fall 2011.
