简介
SEAS is music from Washington DC, performed and recorded by core member Ben Green, with a strong reliance on other musical accomplices in the region for live performances. The project began in 2006 as a collection of quiet, simple guitar-driven instrumental pieces, and has since evolved into the vocally-driven embodiment active today. Green was a founding member of the now-retired, DC melodic hardcore group Fairweather, and while changing styles dramatically, some of the organic elements of their later work are vaguely present in these songs. Additionally, SEAS draws much aesthetic inspiration from John Fahey’s co-opting of Takoma Park, MD. This record nods artistically to Fahey, while its careful layering of instrumentation and imagery constructs an atmosphere more lush and warm. Henri Bergson said, “The pure present is an ungraspable advance of the past devouring the future. In truth, all sensation is already memory.” Now My Home Is A Beech Tree, the debut record from SEAS, centers thematically on the unreliable landscape of memory, and the tenuous relationship between perceived history and actuality. The songs speak to hazy combinations of personal history, factual happenings, and surreal narratives, paying homage to the natural world with the reverence of gospel music, and reading much like elegies to physical landscapes and events that have ceased to exist.
