GYPSY STAR's sophomore album, Once In a Dream, is a mystical, poppy and alluring mix of tunes. Featuring their signature sound of Spanish style guitar, this time accompanied by violin and woodwinds played on the rhythmic foundation of hand drums such as djembes, congas, bodhran, bongos and darbuka and castanets. Add to the mix… lush8, dynamic arrangements, haunting vocals and beautiful harmonies. The band came together around the compositions of guitarist, Billy Keen, who after playing many years in rock, R & B and popular music bands started writing his own music. Throughout his musical career he was always fascinated with many different kinds of sounds and styles from around the world. He was particularly inspired by the guitar oriented Rumba Flamenco music as well as the ancient sounds of Celtic music and the exotic flavors of the Middle East and beyond. This led to writing original songs fusing these varied influences into a new sound and then the eventual formation of Gypsy Star. A serendipitous collaboration with long time bandmate, vocalist Belinda Brodsky, breathes poetry into Keen’s tunes with lyrics that capture the essence of ancient tales, modern storytelling and heartfelt sentiments. Bringing their international spectrum of musical influences to this truly unique album, Gypsy Star's rock-pop world-beat fusion is a cultural feast for the ears!
