Wirechoir is the reinvention of Tony Rizzi's famous 5 guitar ensemble. This all-star group plays harmonized arrangements of jazz and swing tunes based on artists such as Charlie Christian, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk.Tony Rizzi's original group formed in the 1970's and was made up of studio musicians that got together to rehearse, record, and perform these amazing and difficult tunes. Although the group went thru several lineup changes throughout its tenure, some of the original guitarists that played in the group were Tony Rizzi, Jimmy Wylbe, Tim May, Grant Geissman, and Mike Rosati with guest soloists such as Barney Kessel and Joe Pass. The group also consisted of Pete Christlieb (Tenor Saxophone), Tom Ranier (Piano), Tom Azarello (Bass), and John Perett (Drums) Today's group continues the tradition and rehearses every sunday in Los Angeles at Carter's Coyote Pass Studios. The group consists of some of the finest guitar players in the area that include Sid Jacobs, Ken Rosser, Jimmy Cheesman, Willis Clow, Matt Ritvo, Putter Smith, John Atkinson, Pete Christlieb, and leader Terry Carter.
