简介
The album begins with two angst driven rock–pop numbers with satirical existential lyrics, followed by the melodic pop philosophy UR1 with its lyrical play on numbers and letters. The following tracks are instrumentals, each one a unique soundscape that takes you on a trip, from the womb (Ultra Sound) to floating down the Nile in Cairo (Downstream). Construction Site is a Phillip Glass ‘esque’ piano piece accompanied by strings, hammers and drills, creating a romantic view of the harmony involved in skilled-labour. Coastal Dreaming is a laid back nostalgic piece with sounds from the bush and playgrounds of the Australian east coast with tremolo guitar hinting at surf music. Nocturne evokes a mysterious night-sky with intriguing bird-like sounds using a reversed electric guitar accompanied by piano. Within this mix are two pieces that blend Western rhythm with Eastern modes. Symphony For The Rebel is guitar driven and accompanied by strings, piano and brass. It uses the Phrygian mode in E, meaning there are no sharps or flats. Masr, which is ‘Egypt’ in Egyptian, is ‘a day in the life’ of a nation. It uses the Arabic mode Hogaz and includes acoustic guitar, piano, flute and brass, as well as the sounds of Friday morning in Cairo. The final track Garden Of Eden, has other worldly, dreamy tones with an unusual rhythm for the piano to accompany.
