简介
A follow-up to the hard hitting 2013 'Depth in Shallows', Proseed delivers 'There Goes the Sun', a spirited, passionate hip-hop project that is personally reflective and intellectually driven. Keyboard laden while absent any traditional, sampled drum breaks, this is DIY hip-hop from an experienced, versatile and motivated musician. Album highlights: Title track "There Goes the Sun" is the album's best lyrical example of natural imagery, with a mash up of 808 drums and real rock drum patterns, concert grand piano, a catchy electric guitar riff, and an organ strong enough to take 'em to church. "Big Yellow House" continues the project's keyboard theme with a sleepy Rhodes electric piano, occasional use of the glockenspiel, and subject matter that exposes the artist's impatient aspiration of owning a home, while delivering calls for personal responsibility, and warnings against piling on credit card debt. "City on a Hill" is the album's most politically charged track with an aggravated piano melody, looming atmospheric strings, and a bridge that brightens the song by making more room for an otherwise buried flute. From the writing, expect an overt discussion of the absurd idea that money equals free speech, and a succinct narrative of America's dying middle class.
