简介

PESKY is proof that having a good idea and sharing it is more important than how well the instruments get played. Based on deceptively simple guitar changes and minimalist beats, this is music designed to get the point of the songs across as quickly and simply as possible. The songs are about love. Falling in love. Falling out of love. With your relationship. Your job. Your country. Your record collection. Play it loud. Features cover versions of "Candy" and "No One Will Ever Love You" by The Magnetic Fields. REVIEWS - REVIEWS - REVIEWS - REVIEWS Reviews for "An Effort To Do Good" have been overwhelmingly positive. It was included in the September 2003 issue of RockPile magazine, where it drew comparisons to R.E.M.'s early masterpiece, Murmur (which is ridculous, but it made us smile). Indieworkshop.com named PESKY's "An Effort To Do Good" one of the best albums of 2003, which is also ridiculous. We're stunned. PESKY joins Rocky Votolato, Cex, the Fruit Bats (among others) on the list. Check it out: www.indieworkshop.com/articles/52/. The UK's Whisperin' and Hollerin' Magazine had this to say: "You'll not hear a better music-biz-in-the-firing-line satire than (PESKY's) Coming True all year." Whisperin' and Hollerin' went on to give "An Effort To Do Good" eight out of 10 stars. The following review excerpt is from Deep Fry Bonanza, www.dfbpunk.com Chapel Hill, NC USA - Monday, May 05, 2003: "Quickly it's evident that Pesky draws their influences from many different genres and time periods in music. Seconds into the opening track, Coming True, you may feel as if you are being forced into a time warp as remnants of some of the best 80s syth-pop including The Clean and the Magnetic Fields are brought into to the forefront. With not one but two Magnetic Fields covers, Candy and No One Will Ever Love You, it's pretty obvious that Stephen Merritt and Company made a tremendous impact on the members of Pesky. I am happy to report that their take on these songs does justice to the originals. Other synth-pop players such New Order also seem to have influenced the band, as heard in Building Houses. Bringing things back into relation to present day pop/indie music one could even argue that bands such as Dressy Bessy and the Apples in Stereo influenced some of the more straight up pop tracks on the album, such as White Boys. "Instrumentally, this is a very solid album overall; some of the best hard driving guitar lines are featured in Balancing Act, a one and a half minute rocker which comes to an end too quickly. It may cause you to ask the band, "Why are these albums always over so fast?" as is sung in In Our Heads. In addition to strong musicianship, the vocals on the album, sung by both Pete Thomas and Bob Stewart, have a raw and honest feel to them without having them sound as if they belong in some sort of emo song. "The album as a whole is an example of some of the best synth-pop to emerge in quite sometime that is definitely worth seeking out. Move over Get Up Kids, if there is any justice in this world the kids in Pesky are going to be taking the Kansas City scene by storm; don't say I didn't warn you."
