Stepping Stone was a project that began simply as a means of committing a few tunes to permanence. Seger had written them for other bands and had allowed other front people to sing them. However, they had never gotten to the point of being recorded with those groups, but he really loved the songs and wasn't keen on forgetting them. By the time the first few had been recorded, he had written a few more new ones that he might as well add to the collection. However, problems soon riddled the production, from clashing musicians schedules and financial setbacks to illnesses that hindered the recording process. What started as a fun project had grown to become a huge endeavor and was taking much longer than originally intended. Two years down the road, the order was finally put in and a box of 300 CDs arrived on his doorstep. Hand deliveries began soon after to patrons who had preordered the album years before. He hadn't forgotten his early supporters and delivered, as promised, albeit with a bit of a delay. The album was truly a family endeavor. Ten different Denver musicians can be heard adding their unique voices and talents to the various tracks. Over 50 people raised over $1000 in 10 days to help him fund the final production costs and thanks to their generous support, you now have Stepping Stone, the debut record from Seger Marion.
