The Lou Rainone Quintet +1 consists of a swinging jazz rhythm section, Lou Rainone on piano, Tom DiCarlo on upright bass, and Taro Okamoto on drums. Two cuts, "Sweet Tooth" and "Fly Away" are piano trio selections. On the rest, two horn players are added to the mix, Richie Vitale on trumpet, and Larry Farrell on trombone. They both take strong, rhythmic solos . "Shifting" and "Time is a Friend" feature a gifted vocalist, Dorian Devins, who also wrote the lyrics. Each member of the quintet is a strong soloist with plenty of room on these selections to stretch out and voice their ideas on this collection of straight-ahead, 3/4 feel, or ballad songs. All songs were written and arranged by Lou Rainone.
