Why don’t you do it “Nice and Easy!” This was the gentle admonishment from my wife that inspired me to write this song. “It’s better if you make the feeling last.” Is a line in the song that should apply to all of us. How many times do we rush through something pleasurable, looking to find the next best thing when we would be better off savoring the here and now. As I get (hopefully) more mature, my insights and appreciation for the good things in life have intensified. When I first started writing this song, my intentions were to get a serious message across to the listener. As the song evolved, I found that I could still be serious and humorous at the same time. This humor became part of our recording experience when Jody Cook (vocal), Rich Martin (piano), Frank Rinella (engineer), and my wife, Marti Martin (producer), started making wisecracks about the lyrical content. Needless to say, this slowed down the recording process and wound up costing us more money, but how do you put a price on laughter? That ridiculous guy on the treadmill in the picture is in pretty good shape thanks to my wife’s prodding to slow down and go “Nice and Easy.”
