简介
The marimba is the reason why I came to the USA 20 years ago. The passion I have for this instrument indeed still vibrates, and now even more than ever. This new production is a dream come true, where I combine classical marimba with Afro-Cuban rhythms to create a new musical tapestry. Even though I was trained as a classical marimbist, on this record I present a number of new ideas, combinations, and possibilities, in order to show just how versatile the marimba can be. About the music on this disc: On every track there is an improvisatory section where the left hand plays a bass line in the pattern known in Latin music as the "tumbao". While the right hand is free to improvise over the chord changes, I feature the use of poly-rhythms in these sections, as my right hand frequently plays the pianistic melodic pattern known in Latin music as the "montuno" over this tumbao. You will find this technique throughout the record. I am grateful to have had the collaboration of a two world renowned percussionists on this project---my dear friend Michael Spiro, who added add the magical touch of his virtuosity and elegant performances, and Dr. Juan Alamo, who worked with me on some arrangements and played such beautiful vibes solos.
